Mortgage Monkey reveals the gibberish littering the industry’s press communications

Trash Talk is Mortgage Strategy’s new column, which takes a light-hearted look at the business speak and jargon sneaking their way into the mortgage industry

Business speak of the week: ‘ORGANIC ORIGINATIONS’
Culprit: Shawbrook

‘Organic originations’ is slowly making headway in the mortgage world despite widespread confusion about what it actually means.

Last week Shawbrook said: ‘Gross organic originations of £812m in the six months ended 30 June 2015 were 31 per cent higher compared to £621m in the first half of 2014.’

Even Shawbrook’s PR agency was uncertain about the meaning of the phrase but Monkey understands it is a newer, more ‘blue-sky’ way of saying gross lending.

Admittedly there is nothing sexy about gross lending. But this primate thinks ‘gross lending’ stands alone and we do not need any more psittacism clogging up our beautiful market.
