The Mortgage Lender has removed its DSS tenant restrictions.
According to the firm, it will now consider DSS tenancies across its buy-to-let product range.
Earlier this year, Zoopla removed all adverts that refused borrowers who are in receipt of housing benefits, and Metro Bank agreed to lift mortgage restrictions preventing landlords from renting their properties to tenants receiving housing benefits after pressure from the government.
Mortgages for Business managing director Steve Olejnik says: “As regular followers of MFB news will be aware we have been championing the removal of any lender DSS tenant restriction, alongside Helena McAleer and Shelter, since the news broke of the case between McAleer and NatWest towards the end of 2018.
“Since then, the majority of lenders have reversed their policy and it is encouraging to see TML follow suit.
“We will continue to put pressure onto the last remaining lenders until there are no lenders who discriminate against tenants based on their state-based income.”
