SJP chairman takes non-exec role at Leeds BS

St James’s Place chairman Iain Cornish has taken up a role as a non-executive director at Leeds Building Society.

A stock exchange notice shows that Cornish was appointed to the position on Friday.

Last month, SJP announced that current chair Sarah Bates would be stepping down with Cornish, who chaired the firm’s risk committee, taking over the post.

Cornish spent 19 years at the start of his career at Yorkshire Building Society, serving as chief executive between 2003 and 2011. He was originally appointed as a non-executive director by SJP in 2011.

He also holds other external positions including treasurer of charity Macmillan Cancer Support’s board of trustees.

The chairman change comes in a year where there have been a number of roles reshuffled at the top of SJP.

Chief executive David Bellamy stepped aside in January, replaced by finance director Andrew Croft.

Former Henderson chief executive Roger Yates stepped into fill Cornish’s position as senior non-executive director, while managing director of investments and veteran of the firm David Lamb will be retiring early next year.
