L&G veteran Stephen Smith will step down at the end of the year.

Smith is currently director, housing strategy but has had several roles at L&G, including heading up L&G Mortgage Club.

He has worked in the mortgage market for 40 years and has been at L&G since before the club was founded 21 years ago.

In February 2017 Smith moved from being director of housing partnerships to a role developing the longer term strategy for Legal and General’s insurance business.

Smith says: “To have been able to be part of this industry for 40 years has been a great privilege – we help people into homes – what could be better than that?

“And with all the ups and downs of the market and the changes with regulation and technology, it’s never been dull.  But there comes a time you need to step off the roundabout, and having turned 60 earlier on this year, I think that time for me is now.”
