John Charcol chief executive Simon Knight steps down

John Charcol chief executive Simon Knight has stepped down, Mortgage Strategy can reveal.

The firm’s executive chairman, Ian Darby, will head up the brokerage in Knight’s absence. John Charcol spokesman says: “Over the past two years Simon and his team have successfully laid the key foundations necessary for getting John Charcol into shape and the business can now look forward to an exciting future of significant growth.

“Having completed this initial phase, Simon has decided that the time is right for him to move on to his next challenge, and we wish him every success.”

Knight began his mortgage career at John Charcol in 1987, before leaving in 1989.

After leaving, his roles included setting up packager Private Label and becoming chief executive of GMAC-RFC UK.

He then returned to John Charcol in March 2015 as part of a management buyout from Towergate.
