HIPs are of no interest to most home buyers

I was intrigued to read an article on Mortgage Strategy Online last week revealing that 40% of buyers don’t see Home Information Packs before they make offers.

As an estate agent I am amazed this figure is so high. I have only ever known two buyers ask to see HIPs and nobody has declined to make an offer based on the energy performance of a property.

Energy performance is of little importance to most buyers – it’s just a way of the government compiling a database so it can tax less efficient homes more heavily.
