Tribunal dismisses legal challenge to HBOS takeover

The legal challenge mounted by the Merger Action Group against the Lloyds TSB takeover of HBOS has been dismissed by the Competition Appeal Tribunal.

One of the arguments put forward by MAG opposing the merger was that the government had approached the Financial Services Authority for competition analysis rather than the Office of Fair Trading.

The two-day hearing concluded that this argument was without merit.
