Pay Commissions on time

Last week’s lead news item in Mortgage Strategy about angry appointed representatives of Network Data protesting outside the firm’s Botleys Mansion headquarters was a PR disaster for the company.

I’ve known Network Data Holdings’ chief executive Richard Griffiths for more than 10 years and have a lot of time for the man. He’s done a lot for the mortgage industry over the years.

But I choked on my cornflakes when I read that 11 ARs had descended on the premises to stage a protest. They are angry because they allege they are due unpaid monies.

For too long some networks have hidden behind a smokescreen of system updates and software problems as an excuse for not paying commissions on time. This is 2009, not 1989.

In my 26 years in this industry I have worked through some tough periods including a couple of recessions and several wars. But one ongoing crisis has gone largely unnoticed – that of actuarial blunders.

London will lead recovery

Are these green shoots or is it just the annual spring bounce? With Easter just around the corner, the pick-up in market activity is at least encouraging.
