The Mortgage Works is to stage a five-a-side football tournament in Finsbury Park, north London on June 20.The date of the event coincides with England’s group game with Sweden at the World Cup in Germany. The intermediary tournament follows the successful event two years ago that took place during Euro 2004 and saw Alexander Hall beat Square Mile Mortgage Finance 2-0 in the final. Making up the numbers this time are Alexander Hall, Square Mile Mortgage Finance, John Charcol, Cobalt Capital, Savills Private Finance, Chase de Vere, Hamptons Mortgages, Mortgage Times, The Mortgage Works and 2004 wooden spoon winners Mortgage Strategy. Andy Pratt, chief operating officer of reigning champion Alexander Hall, says: “Despite lots of requests from the opposition and the press, I am not going to disclose any personal data about our team. We are off to a training camp in Portugal for training sessions behind closed doors.” A source close to the Mortgage Times team says: “Seven of the brokers who are appointed representatives of Mortgage Times are ex-Chase De Vere brokers. If we are drawn against Chase there could be more than a few tackles flying especially as there are some scores to settle.” Barney McCarthy, deputy features editor of Mortgage Strategy and captain of the hacks’ team, says: “We can’t do any worse than last time when we lost all three games without scoring a goal. “Our squad is depleted as the tournament clashes with the Mortgage Summit in Jerez, but we’re determined to put in a stronger showing this time.”
