Name: Ross Purcell
Company: Pink Home Loans
Job title: E-marketing and proposition manager
Where do you live? Lichfield, Staffordshire
Describe your current job:
I’m responsible for the development of Pink’s online strategy, including the maintenance of all our websites.
What was your first job?
I was a glass collector at my friend’s Irish bar at the tender age of 15. As I was underage I didn’t regularly venture into pubs and when we had our Christmas staff party I was sick all over my new boss. It was so bad he had to go home dressed as Santa.
What was your last job?
Prior to what I am doing now I was working as a software programmer within Pink’s software development team.
What have you done in between?
Shortly after I started at the bar my parents decided to buy their own pub and restaurant so I spent most of my time before going to university working for my parents in various roles within the restaurant. While at university I worked as the office manager for Foremost Finance, a small broker based in West Yorkshire.
What was the defining point of your career?
It has to be moving from IT into marketing.
And the most embarrassing?
Receiving the nickname Fat Rick while on this year’s Pink Home Loans ski trip to France. I only have myself to blame as on the flight out I refused the offer of some chocolate on the grounds that I was on diet and that I had lost a fair bit of weight already. After the initial mickey taking had finished we continued with the trip and all was well until I had a bit of an accident while snowboarding on the first day. I fell in the snow and started to slide towards the rest of the group. On the way down my backpack opened projecting 12 family-sized Mars bars across the piste. From then on I was referred to as Fat Rick.
Do you have a mortgage?No.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
Le Brigadier in Sete, France. It is a small restaurant on the sea front, not very pretty to look at but it serves the best seafood I’ve ever had. My girlfriend lived in Sete for a year, so every time I visited we always ended up there.
What is the most you have spent on dinner for two?
Not sure, I always try to forget the price.
What’s your favourite band?
At the moment I’m listening to The Magic Numbers, The Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand, but I still say you can’t beat a bit of Fleetwood Mac.
What’s your favourite tipple?
It has to be any decent Belgian beer.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I love the mountains, so in my spare time I’m either snowboarding or mountaineering. That’s why I’m taking a sabbatical to run a chalet in the French Alps for six months this winter. Visit www.endlessdescents.co.uk for more information.
