Grub up

On the subject of food, it seems the diets above may soon be the only option. Latest statistics show a basket of some of the most popular brands of food now costs a third more than it did three years ago.

Apparently, brands such as Kellogg’s and Hellmann’s have shot up in price in recent months – far faster than the general rate of inflation. Meanwhile, a bottle of brown sauce for your bacon butty now costs twice what it did in 2006, rising from 95p to £1.98. And while pondering giving up the sauce you might also want to consider giving the bread a miss as the price of a loaf has gone up by almost 50%. Choccy biscuits anyone?
