Player of the month – February

Mark Hubby, Total Finance Options, Director

Top Of The League is an industry recognition scheme in association with Woolwich mortgages from Barclays. The aim is to recognise two outstanding individuals each month who will be named Player of the Month or Manager of the Month. Top of the League nominees have all delivered excellent service in their company or community, for colleagues or clients. Each month during the football season Woolwich talent scouts will be hunting out star players and managers in all major networks, clubs and brokerages. They will then be whittled down to a short list of five names, before the winners are chosen by our panel of judges. Winners will be presented with the same Barclays Premier League Player or Manager of the Month trophies that the football greats receive and other exclusive prizes.

Name: Mark Huby
Company: Total Finance Options
Job Title: Director

WHAT DOES BEING DUBBED TOP OF THE LEAGUE MEAN TO YOU?
It’s a great honour and totally unexpected. A lot of what I do is not for praise, but getting recognition makes it even more special.

IN YOUR NOMINATION THE JUDGES PRAISED THE FACT THAT AT THE SAME TIME AS ADAPTING YOUR BUSINESS TO THE DOWNTURN, YOU’VE CONTINUED TO WORK EXTENSIVELY IN YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY. HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME?
I am a district commander with the South Yorkshire Police Special Constabulary, I run a dancing school and am chair of the Parent Teacher Association at my children’s school, so it can be difficult but I manage my time effectively. Each area of my work has a special place in my heart.

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH RUNNING A DANCE SCHOOL?
It was my late aunt’s school which she left to me and I grew up with singing on the club circuit from an early age. The dance school is a network in itself, as I offer the parents of its 520 pupils a free financial health check.

HOW HAS 2010 BEEN FOR YOU?
It was not as difficult as 2009. We rode the storm and altered our business model. There is more appetite from lenders and we’ve had a fantastic start to 2011.

YOU’RE BASED IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE, HOW IS THE MARKET IN YOUR LOCAL AREA AT THE MOMENT?
There has been an increase in property sales, but a lot of people are staying put too. We are fortunate to have new housing developments in the area that are creating new business.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A BROKER?
Receiving client feedback forms – the public don’t know which way to turn because of what they read in the press, so it is pleasing to know we have reassured them.

IF YOU COULD BE THE HEAD OF THE FSA FOR A DAY, HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE MARKET?
I would want lenders to find more ways of driving new blood into the market.

FINALLY, IF YOU COULD BE ANY FOOTBALLER FOR A DAY, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
David Beckham so I could experience wealth and fame beyond my wildest dreams.
