Why judges picked Stanton:

  • Selected by five of his colleagues as Top of the League.
  • Colleagues praised his experience gained in over 25 years as a mortgage broker.
  • They also noted the fact that he is always willing to pass on his experience to younger advisers and was always willing to help.
  • One nomination explained that Stanton’s tips had allowed them to increase their business by 20% year-on-year.

WHAT DOES BEING CROWNED TOP OF THE LEAGUE MEAN TO YOU?

It’s nice to be recognised by colleagues who have voted. I’ve been in this business for 30 years and it’s good to know that I’m still doing things right.

JUDGES WERE WOWED BY THE FACT THAT YOU WERE NOMINATED BY FIVE OF YOUR COLLEAGUES -WHAT DO YOU PUT THEIR WARM RESPONSE DOWN TO?

Experience really – once you’ve been in a career for a long time you should be comfortable helping people along the way. Everyone at APH is like that and helps each other – they’re a good bunch to be around.

MANY NOMINATIONS PRAISED YOUR VAST EXPERIENCE WHICH YOU’RE ALWAYS WILLING TO PASS ON TO COLLEAGUES – IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Yes – to see others succeed as well is important. It’s important for me to be successful and to be part of a successful operation, which I believe APH is.

WHAT’S THE MARKET LIKE IN YOUR LOCAL AREA OF OXFORDSHIRE?

We have a mix of business in all areas and Banbury in Oxfordshire is on the edge of the Cotswolds, so we do not get much unemployment and it’s quite buoyant. House prices are flat but there are areas of growth. The estate agents we deal with are all selling houses and still generating business for us.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO FINANCIAL SERVICES?

To be involved in a people business was important to me and to help people. No matter how big or small the job is, I still get a buzz out of that. I started out in financial services on January 7 1982 knocking on doors selling insurance.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF THE JOB?

Having happy clients. They refer us on and you build up a relationship with them.

FINALLY, IF YOU COULD BE ANY FOOTBALLER FOR A DAY, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

I’m not too up on current footballers but I always admired Gary Lineker mainly for his sportsmanship and talent. And he must get to eat loads of crisps from the advertisements.
