This week the Land Registry published a major consultation paper on new land registration rules.
The new rules will support the Land Registration Act 2002, received Royal Assent on 26 February this year. Both the Act and the new rules are expected to come into force on October 13 2003.
The land registration system underpins the property market in England and Wales and guarantees title to over £2000 billion worth of property.
More than 80% of property titles are now registered, and the great majority of the three million property transactions handled by the Registry each year involve registered land.
