LIB Dems respond to Nationwide house price index

The Liberal Democrats have reiterated their warning that many people are gambling on the house price boom following the release of figures showing house prices rose 2.1% in April.

Responding to the Nationwide house price index, which shows house prices up 2.1% in April, Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat shadow chancellor, says: “Large numbers of people are gambling on the house price boom – a gamble they may regret if house prices start to fall or interest rates rise.

“It is time for the government to take action to protect ordinary homeowners against irresponsible lending.”
