Veteran Mawdsley rides off into the sunset

After over 30 years in the mortgage market, John Mawdsley, managing director of Merseyside-based The Mortgage Partnership, is hanging up his spurs.

Mawdsley, 58, sold his stake in the business that he launched over 10 years ago for an undisclosed sum last Friday.

Mawdsley started in the market in 1974 at the Liverpool branch of mutual Hastings & Thanet. Since then he has worked with such luminaries as Gravity’s Brian Pitt, Beacon Homeloans’ Clive Wilson and Checkmate Mortgages’ Roger Brown.

After HMC, Mawdsley ran software firms for a number of years before setting up TMP with remaining director Ian Ward.

Mawdsley says: “After 30-odd years in the market I thought it was about time I started to have some fun. I’m not out of it forever but I have a couple of other business interests that I’m going to devote more time to.

“The fundamentals of TMP remain strong. Ward has a good business in his hands and will continue to do well.”
