Reasons for Nomination:
Paul was the main reason we came on board with Trustguard. It was his perseverance that finally helped us make the decision to channel business through the company’s packaging business.
The best BDMs have to be focussed and have Paul’s sort of perseverance when it comes to dealing with their broker clients. It is impressive that he manages this given that he has a wide geographical area to cover and many hundreds of brokers to keep in touch with. Regular face-to-face contact is good but not essential if you know that you can depend on a BDM.
I am flattered by this nomination. It’s not often that someone takes the time to be complimentary and it is good to be appreciated in this way. Persistence pays off when you are a BDM. Anyone who comes into this line of work without it will find it hard to be successful. At the same time, you have to be able to build a rapport with people – they need to feel they can rely on you to deliver on time.
It’s important to be direct and honest. If a case is difficult it’s better to be upfront about it than for a broker to find this out further down the track.
Paul is right about the geographical area I have to cover being large, but by visiting up to five brokers a day I manage to see most of them on a fairly regular basis.
