HML presented awards by Natasha Kaplinsky

Dancing supremo Natasha Kaplinsky from the BBCs Breakfast programme presented Homeloan Management with two awards recognising the excellence of the training programmes in the companys Londonderry operation.

The National Training Awards are organised and promoted by UK Skills and the Department for Employment & Learning in Northern Ireland. HML received the Regional Award of Northern Ireland and the Special Award for the use of Information & Communication Technology in training delivery.

The Regional Award recognised the innovative and successful design and implementation of HMLs training academies which are delivered to over 200 new starters at the companys contact centre at the Ulster Business Park in Derry. The Special Award recognised HMLs effective use of e-learning via the companys Intranet.

The awards were received by Tim Spackman, head of learning & development at HML in the presence of managing director Steve Haggerty and director of Irish operations Andrew Duff.

Duff says: Since setting up our operation in Northern Ireland 18 months ago we have hired many staff to handle HMLs growing business from lenders in the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. While our employees are intelligent and well educated many of them do not have a background in financial services so training is particularly important.

Our internal training academies have proved a great success, both in getting our people up to speed quickly and effectively, and in building teamwork and a positive working environment. Im absolutely delighted to win both the Regional Award in recognition of our training academies and the Special Award which recognises our use of e-learning techniques.

Spackman adds: Workplace training is recognised by the Government as a key element in the effective delivery of first rate client service, and HML has shown itself to be a leader in this area. Im very proud to accept this award from Natasha Kaplinsky on behalf of the company and our trainers. Both awards recognise the hard work and dedication by all our training staff based in offices in Skipton, Padiham and Derry.

Congratulating the winners of the National Training Awards Angela Smith, employment and learning minister, says: Harnessing people power to capitalise on better business performance, improve customer service and develop personal skills is a recipe for success and a real boost for Northern Ireland. The winners can be justifiably proud of their achievement and I applaud their commitment to training.

The gala awards dinner took place in Belfast City Hall on October 18, was hosted by Will Haire, permanent secretary of the department for employment and learning, and attended by 350 guests.
