HML appoints managing director

HML has appointed Mark Smith as managing director.

He will report to Steve Haggerty, who has been appointed chairman following his promotion to group commercial director of the Skipton.

Smith has many years of experience of the financial services industry, most recently, working as chief operating officer for the Retail Banking Division of Barclays, prior to which he was retail director at Lloyds TSB.

Haggerty says: I am delighted that Mark has agreed to join HML as our managing director.

He brings with him a wealth of invaluable experience, strong leadership skills, and the vision we need to continue the growth and success of HML.

I look forward to welcoming him at HML next month and to working with him to continue to build on the things we have started.

Smith adds: HML has enjoyed an impressive track record under Steve Haggerty and Im honoured to have been invited to take over from him.

I am determined to continue the strong positive growth trend of recent years and have my sights set on the goal of supporting 100bn of assets under management in the medium term.

In this regard, key aims include: working closely with our existing partners to further develop our and, as a result their, reputation for service excellence; targeting new business from other major lenders in the UK, Ireland and maybe other countries; and ensuring that we continue to be recognised as an employer of choice in communities in which we operate.

Smith will take up his duties on Monday September 4 and will spend time at each of HMLs four sites during his first two months with the company.

Employer iPMI responsibilities could continue to escalate, says Jelf

New laws in Dubai will put the burden of providing international private medical insurance (iPMI) firmly on the shoulders of the employer in order to maintain the country’s leading healthcare facilities. With 10,000 UK nationals having moved to the country since 2007 and only 16.5 per cent of the total 8.2 million people living there being Emiratis, Jelf Employee Benefits believes this move was inevitable and employer responsibilities could continue to escalate in future.
