Top Of The League is an industry recognition scheme in association with Woolwich mortgages from
Barclays. The aim is to recognise two outstanding individuals each month who will be named Player of
the Month or Manager of the Month. Top of the League nominees have all delivered excellent service
in their company or community, for colleagues or clients. Each month during the football season
Woolwich talent scouts will be hunting out star players and managers in all major networks, clubs and
brokerages. They will then be whittled down to a short list of five names, before the winners are chosen
by our panel of judges. Winners will be presented with the same Barclays Premier League Player or
Manager of the Month trophies that the football greats receive and other exclusive prizes.

JOB TITLE: Managing director
WHAT DOES BEING DUBBED TOP OF THE LEAGUE MEAN TO YOU?
Obviously it’s pleasing and is a reward for all the hard work that we have done in recent months.
IN YOUR NOMINATION FOR TOTL THE JUDGES PRAISED YOUR DIVERSIFICATION INTO LETTINGS AND YOUR PROACTIVE APPROACH TO PROMOTING YOURSELF IN THE LOCAL PRESS – WHAT DO YOU PUT YOUR SUCCESS DOWN TO?
My inspiration has been the book Who Moved My Cheese?. The basic message in the book is that if someone moves your cheese you’ve got
to find a new source and that’s what we’ve done. Historically we’ve been a mortgage brokerage but because of the difficulty in the market we’ve diversified and have set up an estate and lettings agents within the last 12 months. It’s another aspect of the business and has also helped feed the mortgage side as well.
HOW HAS 2010 BEEN FOR YOU?
The year has been tough but then that goes for everyone. I see the market as remaining the same for 2011 but our diversification has helped us weather the storm and set us up for the new year.
YOU’RE BASED IN NOTTINGHAM – HOW IS THE MARKET IN YOUR LOCAL AREA AT THE MOMENT?
The lettings market is buoyant and on the estate agency side we expect purchases to pick up next year. Even on the mortgage side we’ve seen an improvement in the last four months. But it’s still difficult with lending criteria and we expect the market to tighten up even further.
WHAT’S THE BEST PART ABOUT RUNNING YOUR FIRM?
The overall pleasure of seeing the business grow and do well.
IF YOU COULD BE THE HEAD OF THE FSA FOR A DAY, HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE MARKET?
I would want a more common sense approach among all players.
FINALLY, IF YOU COULD BE ANY FOOTBALLER FOR A DAY, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
I’d choose to be Carlos Tevez at Manchester City. I would then be earning £280,000 a week and I certainly would not be moaning about it.
WHY JUDGES PICKED…
