YBS reveals 2m donated in seven years

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated over 2m to more than 3,600 charities and local good causes in the last seven years

The foundation which began in 1999 made 424 donations last year totalling 314,300. This year over 700 local charities and good causes have already received donations.

The Charitable Foundation receives much of its funds through the Societys unique Small Change Big Difference scheme whereby members each donate a small amount from the interrest they recieve.

Members of the Society are then invited by the Foundations trustees to recommend local charities and good causes to receive support.

Louise Neill, of the Foundation says: As the majority of the Foundations money is generated from Yorkshire Building Society members, we feel it is only right that they are invited to have their say in where it goes.

“We aim to support charities and good causes that are important to our staff and members, operating in areas where they live and work, with many of these being local causes that often get overlooked by larger organisations.

“Over 84% of donations this year have been as a result of a member nomination.

Neill adds: We are absolutely delighted to have been able to reach the 2m point in our charitable activity and the money has helped so many worthwhile causes across the UK.

“We would like to thank the Societys members for their support of Small Change, Big Difference and for their invaluable recommendations, and hope it wont be too long before we reach the next million!
