John Charcol seeks more advisers

John Charcol last week revealed that despite the market downturn and many brokers shutting up shop it is looking to recruit advisers.

The brokerage is looking for experienced advisers in London and Bristol who can start immediately.

Around 60 advisers currently work under the John Charcol banner and the firm is aiming to increase this to around 100 in the first half of this year.

Some have questioned whether John Charcol might be in breach of employment laws because the recruitment drive follows a number of redundancies.

But the firm says the redundancies were location-based and that when it closed branches it offered staff the chance to move.

Walter Avrili, product director at John Charcol, says: “We have a number of business opportunities and need more quality sales people to help us capitalise on these.”

Blurring of advice and sales must stop

The Competition Commission’s recent investigation into the payment protection insurance market suggested some widespread reforms that will have important consequences for the wider personal finance sector.
