The Mortgage Mole

Big talk The biggest man in mortgages met one of the biggest men in politics last week, when Eric Pickles, secretary of state for communities and local government, visited the offices of Brightstar Financial in Essex.

Pickles, who is MP for Brentwood and Ongar in Essex, paid mortgage giant Rob Jupp and his team a visit last Friday.

Jupp’s office manager William Lloyd – the youngest Conservative party councillor elected in 2007 – arranged the meeting.

Jupp and his colleagues had the chance to tell Pickles, who is boss of housing minister Grant Shapps, what could be done to boost the housing market.

Although Pickles had few solutions for the housing market’s problems, Jupp described him as a good listener.

Driving force Tim Wheeldon, joint managing director of Fluent Money, was hoping to steer his way to victory at the weekend in the UK Saker Sportscar Challenge.

Taking part in the first race of the 2012 season, he headed to Zandvoort, Holland, in a bid to repeat last year’s success as the most successful driver in the series. The inaugural UK series saw Tim appear on the podium 23 times out of 26 races.

“The pressure is certainly on for me to match my performance from last year, but I’m ready for the challenge,” he told Mole.
