Good luck to Which? for launching a broker service, but I fear it will have a tough job ahead of it. And it’s a shame estate agents are unhappy with brokers as a good relationship between the two can work wonders

Heroes of the week are Barclays and the Royal Bank of Scotland, both of which significantly increased their gross lending volumes. RBS has increased its lending by 8% in Q3 and Barclays lent £20.6bn in the first nine months of the year. Also, Abbey lent £19.2bn in the first nine months. It is great to see them all lending more.

Villain of the week is Halifax. I can’t believe how cringingly bad its television advertisements with the Halifax radio station are. Playing tunes like ISA ISA baby – poor Vanilla Ice – this is one station you would never choose to tune into. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to be a customer of Halifax after hearing the ad.
