Duncombe promoted at L&G as Smith leaves club

Changes have been made at Legal and General resulting in two of the best-known names in the industry taking on new responsibilities.

L&G mortgage club director Jeremy Duncombe has been promoted and is now responsible for all aspects of the club business as well as the remaining elements of what was the network. His job title as director will remain unchanged but he will now report directly into managing director of partnerships Mark Holweger.

Jeremy Duncombe and Stephen Smith (with glasses), Legal & General, London.

He told Mortgage Strategy: “I am delighted to be able to continue to grow and develop our proposition for our intermediary and lender partners with the great team I have around me.

“We recognise the need to continually evolve, and these changes allow us to do that in the best possible way”

Meanwhile, director of housing partnerships Stephen Smith is moving to a role developing the longer term strategy for Legal and General’s insurance business in the housing and mortgage market and will no longer be involved with the club or survey businesses.

He told us: “The housing market is absolutely critical for Legal & General for mortgage, protection and general insurance business, and it is important we can plan our way forward for coming years at what is such a great period of change in the market.

“I am looking forward to this new challenge, and will hopefully be able to use the knowledge and experience of my time with the mortgage club to develop a successful strategy to ensure we continue to be a key player in this market.”

Both Duncombe and Smith were interviewed for a Mortgage Strategy cover feature in November.
