Avrili ‘overwhelmed’ by industry reaction as John Charcol departure confirmed

Stalwart of the mortgage industry Walter Avrili has confirmed he will step down from his role at John Charcol.

Avrili has worked with the broker for 34 years, joining as an administration assistant after he graduated in January 1984.

He rose through the ranks over the years to managing director and product director, his most recent title.

Avrili tells Mortgage Strategy: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the reaction from everyone; I’ve had non-stop calls, texts and emails with lovely words and I’ve been really emotional.

“I’ve tried the best I can for myself and the industry during my time at Charcol, I’ve seen two recessions, an administration and I’ve been managing director for several years. I’ve seen many people start their careers with Charcol and go on to do great things in the mortgage industry.

“It was a difficult decision to leave.”

Avrili intends to take the month of August off to spend time with family in Italy before deciding his next steps.
