Sparring spouses

When a relationship breaks down there’s always the tricky job of divvying up who owns what and who’s going to keep the house. But for one couple in London that task was all the more difficult as the house in question came with a whopping £27,000 a month mortgage.
The former chairman of ICI Charles Miller Smith split from his wife Molly in January with her staying on at their Kensington home. But Mrs Miller Smith subsequently claimed that her estranged husband should fork out to meet the monthly repayments - more than most people earn in a year.
Alas it was not to be, as last week a judge ruled it was unreasonable for Mr Miller Smith to be forced to pay up and ordered the house should be sold. Now Mrs Miller Smith is challenging the ruling claiming the judge’s decision was flawed. It seems while money can’t buy you love it also falls short of paying for common sense.
