Ride the waves with retirement advice

One cure for seasickness I am reliably informed is to keep your eyes on the horizon to smooth out the dips and rise of the waves.
And we’ve certainly been through some choppy waters over the last year or two, with different sectors of the market being affected at different times of the cycle.
The survivors will be the ones who took the long view with a belief and understanding that stability will return along with more normal trading conditions.
In equity release the announcement that Prudential was to withdraw from the market came as a shock to many and reminded me of the withdrawal of Allied Dunbar from equity release in the late 1980s.
It seemed like a big wave back then too - though a longer-term perspective shows the market continued to grow and is still many times larger than 20 years ago.
Research, customer profile and simple common sense point to the increasing demand for products from an ageing population.
The improving longevity of clients is a trend for more than 200 years.
Retirement products and the advice surrounding them remain the best long-term bet for the future.
