Hector Sants rewarded for serving financial services with distinction

Hector Sants, chief executive officer at the Financial Services Authority has been honoured for contributing to financial services with distinction.

Sants, along with Angela Knight, chief executive of the British Bankers’ Association, has  been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.

Honorary Fellowship, which carries the designatory letters FCSI(Hon), is awarded by the Institute Board to those who have contributed with distinction to financial services and the CISI.

The Institute now has 45 Honorary Fellows.

Sants says: “I am delighted to accept this CISI Fellowship. The values it represents are integral to the foundation and development of the industry and its practitioners.”

Hector Sants was appointed FSA chief executive in 2007, having joined the regulator in 2004 as managing director of wholesale and institutional markets.

Previously CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Credit Suisse First Boston, he had before then, held a number of senior roles at both DLJ and UBS.

Knight says: “I am honoured to receive and accept this CISI Fellowship, particularly as I am a firm supporter of the CISI’s core values of integrity, professionalism and excellence.”

Angela Knight joined the BBA, the leading trade association for the UK banking and financial services sector, in 2007.

She was chief executive of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers from 1997 to 2006 and an MP between 1992 and 1997, including time as Economic Secretary to the Treasury.

Alan Yarrow, chairman of the CISI, says: “These are two very able people who have made an exceptional personal contribution to the City and our industry and we are very pleased that they have accepted Honorary Fellowship.”
