Former Stroud & Swindon CEO joins FSA
The Financial Services Authority has appointed John Sutherland, former chief executive officer at Stroud & Swindon Building Society as an advisor.
He will advise on the building society sector. He has more than 36 years experience in retail banking, including senior roles at the Nationwide Building Society and most recently at Stroud & Swindon.
Hector Sants, the FSA’s chief executive officer, says: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of John Sutherland as a senior advisor to the FSA. John brings to his role considerable experience of the retail banking sector which will be vital in our work in this area.
“Senior advisors are a core part of the FSA’s delivery of intensive supervision. The team provides experience on regulatory, market and consumer matters.”

Wouldn't it be nice if the FSA appointed someone from the broker community to be an adviser?
We have an entirely different viewpoint to those of lenders.
Yes, I would be happy to assume that role - and at the same salary as John Sutherland. I'd even take 10% less!

So the CEO of a Building Society that had to merge because of a poor strategy is bing taken on as an FSA advisor - am I the only one to think that this is hardly good news?
