Scottish Provident launches guide to unemployment cover

Scottish Provident has launched an IFA guide outlining how to explain the need for unemployment benefit to clients.

The step-by-step guide covers areas such as understanding the detail of unemployment benefit and eligibility criteria, as well as breaking down the claiming process.

The guide will also offer some FAQs and template letters which IFAs can use to help promote unemployment benefit, along with a booklet for clients which to allows them to read about the cover for themselves.

Scottish Provident’s guide has been launched as the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics reveal unemployment has hit 2.47 million for the three months to August.

Unemployment benefit cover is offered as an option on the Scottish Provident Self Assurance Mortgage Plan.

The policy also offers a free service called JobCare, a free independent and confidential helpline for people who find themselves unemployed.

The service helps with CV writing, interview techniques and gives access to a large national job database.

The JobCare service is available to all Scottish Provident clients whose claims have been accepted.

Susan Barclay, head of marketing at Scottish Provident, says: “It is important to remember that there are still affordable ways for consumers to protect themselves and their family from the financial impact of unemployment.

“We are committed to this market and want to maintain dialogue with advisers on how to navigate it and get the best protection plans, including unemployment benefit to suit their customers.”
