MP slams Farepak boss

MP Jack Straw has slammed shamed Farepak owner Sir Clive Thompson after he blamed the Christmas hamper firm's failure on HBOS. Sir Clive was quoted as saying that the bank was "hanging the firm out to dry". However, Straw deemed this comment to be "shameless", as Farepak was well aware of its financial difficulties even though it continued to advertise its product.

The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries' October census reveals a static market for mortgage adviser recruitment. Most firms have not recruited any advisers in the past 12 months. I have heard of the new legislation concerning age discrimination but I'm not 100% sure how it will affect my firm. We are a medium-sized company of 25 mortgage advisers. I understand that I cannot advertise for someone of a certain age when I'm recruiting and can't dismiss someone on the basis of age but I've even heard of companies banning birthday cards in case they say the wrong thing. Surely this is taking things too far, or do we all need to go to these lengths to stay within the law??
