Our mojo's back - check the classifieds

The year has only just begun but so far there has been more excitement than there was in the whole of 2009.

London & Country has announced a hook up with Moneysupermarket.com to help service the latter’s leads - so that’s at least two online search engines now linked with the giant brokerage.

The best news is that London & Country is recruiting graduate brokers again. Could this mean the first increase in broker numbers for months?

Trade publications are getting thicker as more companies feel confident enough to advertise their wares or even advertise for staff.

I have even seen some adverts for mortgage brokers and while the packages are nowhere near as good as they used to be, it is still a positive step.

Networks are also continuing to advertise to try to entice people from existing relationships with increased commissions and faster payments.

And finally the franchise boys are pushing their offerings and trying to lure people back into running a mortgage business. Likewise the Financial Services Authority is still doing its bit to clean up the industry.

So has mortgage broking turned a corner, got its mojo back and once more become a viable career option for new recruits?

Products are getting better, underwriting appears to be more consistent and service levels are returning to acceptable levels.

I could certainly think of worse places to be.
