Birthday Wishes To Mortgage Strategy

Chris Cummings, director general, AMI
This week marks the 8th anniversary of Mortgage Strategy entering the market. During that time the Conservative Party has begun to look electable, Prince Charles has married Camilla Parker-Bowles and England’s cricketers have won the Ashes twice. So clearly anything can happen in eight years.

Even AMI can’t claim to have been around the mortgage industry for as long so it is very well deserved congratulations to the magazine and all those who have contributed to the publication over the years.

We face enormous challenges in the mortgage intermediary community at the present moment. Having witnessed an extremely prosperous period Mortgage Strategy now has to report on a much rockier road for the profession. It is to its credit that it continues to champion the role of intermediaries and campaign on their behalf while raising the major challenges we have to meet.

From the very immediate problems of a lack of lending in the market, which has subsequently reduced access for intermediaries to mortgage products, to the possibility of further regulation of the market by the Financial Services Authority.

You can be assured that we are campaigning hard on these issues to ensure the best outcome for our members. And we are grateful for the likes of Mortgage Strategy in helping us to put our messages across on behalf of intermediaries.

While the magazine rightly challenges us at times, without it our job would be that much harder. Ultimately we both want to see a strong mortgage intermediary profession that is able to meet the needs of its clients. And long may that continue.
