Citizens Advice seeking debt management firm

National charity Citizens Advice has today launched a tender for a single, preferred debt management plan supplier.

The charity says it is looking to establish a partnership with a provider that will meet the high standards being set by the charity and the bureaux will be able to confidently recommend to debt clients.

It is inviting debt advice agencies who can meet specified quality standards are being invited to apply.

The partnership will initially be a year long pilot across up to 100 of the network’s 394 bureaux in England and Wales and will start in October this year.

Teresa Perchard, director of policy at CAB, says: “Last year Citizens Advice Bureaux helped clients with 2.4 million debt enquiries making it our biggest area of advice at 34% of all enquiries.

“Clients who might need, or choose, to use a debt management plan provider face an increasingly complex market in terms of the number of potential providers, and the services they provide.

“Research by the Money Advice Trust has highlighted concerns about cost and quality in this market and the difficulty consumers have identifying quality providers. Establishing a partnership with a trusted supplier will give clients the option of choosing a service provider that has been carefully assessed and selected.”
