Redundancies at Accord

Iain Smith, sales director at Accord Mortgages, has been made redundant as a result of Yorkshire Building Society’s merger with Chelsea Building Society.

Tom Gurrie, divisional director of intermediary sales at Chelsea, has also been made redundant.

David Robinson, head of national accounts at Accord and Chris Maggs, national sales manager at Chelsea, will now take responsibility for managing corporate relations and Accord BDMs.

The two societies have also placed an undisclosed number of BDMs in consultation, which will result in one national BDM team of 14, seven for each brand.

A spokesman for Yorkshire says the redundancies were made because of duplication among the two societies.

He says: “Regrettably there was duplication in a number of roles across the brands.

“At present all broker business will go through Accord and we are focussing on making that our premier intermediary brand. All direct business will go through the Chelsea, Yorkshire and Barnsley Building Society.”

  • This is a real sad day for some excellent BDM's in both organisations, unfortunately this will not be the last where such announcements are made. The loss of such talent particularly in Senior Management is an unfortunate consequence of rationalisation when such organisations merge.
