Websites outflank brokers in battle for cover business

Brokers are being bypassed by price comparison websites as the internet continues to dominate the market, says Deloitte.

Four out of 10 consumers bought a non-life insurance policy through a comparison website in the past 12 months.

Meanwhile, 32% of consumers looking for a non-life insurance policy say they are more likely to use a price comparison website than a year ago.

Stephen Ross, insurance partner at Deloitte, says: “Many consumers have bought building and contents cover online and it’s likely that we’ll see aggregators shift their spend to these emerging markets.”
