Using Facebook to give kids lessons in finance
A mortgage firm is using Twitter and Facebook to encourage youngsters to learn about mortgages and finance.
Independent Mortgages Direct NE has set up Facebook and Twitter accounts and has had several schoolchildren visit the firm to learn about finance and mortgages.
Gary Howe, broker at Independent Mortgages Direct NE, says the accounts were set up by a pupil doing work experience at the firm and have increased traffic to its website.
He says: “Since they were set up the Facebook page has 186 members and we have a few followers on Twitter. Most of the followers are around 17 years old, so they are not looking for a mortgage at the moment, but in future who knows.”
The firm uses its Twitter account to tweet news and updates on the industry.
Howe adds: “It has raised the hits to our website which in turn means we rank higher on Google.”
It recently invited economics students to its offices and took them to local mortgage processing cen-tres to teach them about finance.
