Paul Howard to leave Nationwide at the end of the year

Paul Howard, head of corporate accounts at Nationwide, is set to leave the mutual at the end of the year.

Mortgage Strategy understands that the move is a result of a management restructure at Nationwide which has allowed Howard to exit the business on favourable terms.

While he has no job to go to currently, Howard says that job offers are already coming in.

He says: “I’m definitely looking for something around the property market - I’ve been in the intermediary market for some 30 years so I’ve got a lot to offer.”

On his exit from Nationwide, Howard says he saw it as an opportunity to seek out other opportunities in the market place and that he wished Matthew Wyles, executive director for group distribution at Nationwide, and his team well.

Nationwide says that Howard’s depature has been the result of the mutual streamlining its business operations.

Following a review of the organisational structure of its intermediary sales division it decided to consolidate the executive leadership of this division.

Currently the intermediary division is jointly managed by Ian Andrew, head of sales and Howard, both of whom report to Wyles.

With immediate effect Andrew will now assume sole responsibility for group intermediary sales as managing director.

Howard first joined the mortgage market in 1981 when he joined London and South of England Building Society.

This was followed by a three year stint as a BDM at Bank of America and sales director roles at Mortgage Support Services and Mortgages PLC.

In 2001 he joined Portman Building Society which was merged with Nationwide in August 2007.

Wyles says: “Paul has done a tremendous job for Nationwide and leaves with our warmest best wishes for the future.”
