Hector Sants took home a total of £742,000 last year

Financial Services Authority chief executive Hector Sants received a wage of £500,000 last year, its annual report reveals.
And Sants’ salary was topped up by bonuses which meant he took home £742,000.

Other high earners include FSA chairman Lord Adair Turner who was paid £416,000, and managing director of retail markets Jon Pain who took home £599,564 including bonuses.

Sants says that in the past 12 months the FSA’s principal achievement has been the reform programme that has changed its supervisory philosophy and its capacity to deliver this. The main feature of the change has been substantial investment to create the ability to deliver intensive supervision.

The regulator says this intensive model has already shown its value as it has been making proactive interventions during the year including stress-testing banks, building societies and insurers.

It has issued 46 fines worth a record £33.6m and completed two criminal prosecutions.
