Conveyancer ran up £4m debt with unnamed lender
Jonathan Gilbert, a conveyancing solicitor from Berkshire, has signed a bankruptcy restriction under-taking for causing a loss of £9m to his creditors, £4m of which was owed to a mortgage lender.
He has agreed to abide by the restrictions for the maximum 15-year period following an investigation by The Insolvency Service.
In his undertaking Gilbert, who worked out of an office in Maidenhead, agrees he abused the trust of his clients and breached his duties as a solicitor, leading to debts of at least £9m.
Gilbert had assets of £144,145 when he was declared bankrupt in June 2009.
Claims against him related to the receipt and disposal of funds received from an unnamed mortgage lender for around £4m, and his previous employer for almost £5m.
