CHL is honoured as a great firm to work for
CHL Mortgages achieved a top 20 placing at this year’s Sunday Times Best Company Awards.
The specialist lender was placed 19th out of 571 companies in the 100 best small companies to work for category, based on responses submitted in staff questionnaires.
CHL’s ranking is particularly significant as the lender had to suspend new mortgage lending last year and operates in the hard hit buy-to-let sector.
The Sunday Times highlighted CHL’s employee benefits package which includes private healthcare arrangements, childcare vouchers and life assurance.
Bob Young, managing director of CHL, says the award acknowledges the firm’s emphasis on the fair treatment of staff and its regular communication with employees.
He says: “We work hard to ensure that what is asked of our employees is equitable and fair. And we understand that our employees are here to support their family lives.
“I’d like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to all those who were involved in our submission for this award. And while we celebrate this achievement, work now begins on improving our placing at next year’s awards.”
CHL was the only mortgage lender to make the top 100 in its category. The only other financial services firm to earn a place was London-based IFA Brooks Macdonald which was ranked 62nd.
Some 92% of CHL’s properties that are in receivership rather than repossession are occupied by tenants and yield a rent that covers the monthly mortgage payment and in some cases reduces the outstanding balance.

The 100+ innocent CHL employees who lost their jobs in 2008 must be ecstatic to see this.
Job security obviously doesn't form part of the remit of a "great firm to work for".
