As the collapse of Network Data and The Mortgage Times Group in 2009 showed, if you are an appointed representative making the right choice about which network you join is vital.

But this is no easy task. Network Data and Mortgage Times both looked great on paper - they had lots of ARs, Network Data was listed on the stock market and both had impressive offices. But they ultimately faltered and ARs suffered as a result.

The following guide is aimed at anyone looking to join or switch to a different network.

On Page 8 Paul Day, director of Which Network, examines what to look for when trying to weigh up which is right for you. And from Page 11 to Page 24, four of the biggest networks - Sesame, Legal & General, Mortgage Intelligence and Intrinsic - provide an in-depth look at their propositions and what they can offer you.

The Mortgage Market Review, Retail Distribution Review and general election will potentially change the financial services industry radically over the next year.

With funding still restricted and gross lending unlikely to increase much above the £143bn done in 2009, it’s vital ARs ensure they are partnered with a network that helps them adapt to the market and capitalise on any opportunities that emerge.
