We should behiking income rather than supporting debtors
I was interested to read about the CML’s call for the ISMI scheme to be maintained or risk rising repossessions.
Why is it that we only hear this sort of drum-beating when the system gets its balls trapped in its briefs?
Our system is weighted towards borrowing rather than income so even if the government bought all housing stock, what would be the use if tenants can’t afford to pay?
Yes, affordability is a big issue but only after the number one problem is fixed - boosting income for ordinary folk. At the moment, the system is not fair.
