Spare a thought for those who trained as home inspectors

I was interested to read the letter last week from the Home Information Pack inspector with a geography degree hitting back at jibes against inspectors by some commentators on Mortgage Strategy Online.

The letter writer compares the amount of study needed to become a HIP inspector with that required to gain an academic degree.

It’s is even more painful if someone has already run up debts to study for a degree and then been persuaded to shell out again to train to become a home inspector.

A lot of people have spent a lot of money training to be inspectors but most professionals involved in financial services and estate agency are glad to see the back of the packs and have precious little sympathy for this group who have trained so hard.

On a positive note, Energy Performance Certificates are still required and although they will generate less income than HIPs they are still an option.
