Government speaks of helping the poor but slashes benefits

I’ve just watched chancellor George Osborne deliver his emergency Budget.

The irresponsible actions of banks caused the current crisis yet only £2bn is to be taken from them to fund debt recovery, and even then only from next April.

At the same time they will benefit hugely from a reduction in Corporation Tax.

Meanwhile, as a pensioner my basic allowance rose only by 2.5% this year - that’s £2.50 per week, which does not cover the increase in the cost of living.

The part of the pension my employer and I both paid into did not rise at all.

The chancellor was deliberately vague about index-linking pensions from next April. What are we supposed to live on in the meantime?

Members of this government are patronising hypocrites. They speak of helping the poor while freezing child benefits, cutting housing and disability payments and making life even more difficult for single parents and pensioners.
