Fake documents are so good even police can't recognise them

Most people couldn’t tell a fake passport or other identity documents from the real thing. Even the police say that some of the fakes are so good they can’t tell the difference either.
Online verification is actually the method recommended by the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group.
But lenders use alternative methods of checking identity. They ought to require that the solicitor sees the client and verifies the original photographic evidence as a true likeness to help reduce fraud.
Unfortunately not all firms train their staff in what to look for.
