Dumping HIPs now will put a lot of folk like me out of work

I am writing with regard to the government’s plan to scrap HIPs.

Of course, the packs were poorly thought out from the start and remain ill-advised to this day.

But the number of people who will be put out of work as a result of scrapping them is huge, especially considering the government is looking to drive the country out of the recession.

I for one will be signing on straight away and filling my claim for housing benefit if HIPs are junked. I’m sure many others in the industry will follow suit.

After all, who’s going to recompense my training and effort in starting a new career and business?

  • What is the point of scapping HIP'S all the searches still have to be done by one of the two parties involved. Often the cost is defferred so the cleint does not even pay it up front. The way the get the housing market moving, is to get the banks lending again,as who can find £10-15000 for a deposit. And really what does and estate agent do to be able to charge between £1000-5000 for selling your house. That must be the biggest joke to the moving process. HIPS generate abot £100 milion in VAT,which given the state of public finances is worth keeping alone. It is just knee jerk reaction form the government, it is looking at a reason not the cause of the state of the housing market. The cause of it is no lending and high fees by the estate agents.

  • more money will be earned in stamp duty than can be earned from VAT on HIPs.
More houses on sale = more sales, less HIPS = more houses on sale and the HIPS largely put an end to speculative sales as people would only sell if they were 100% sure.
Estate agents won't exist in 20 years time in my opinion as they serve no purpose in the sale or purchase of property in my experience other than to be a "message handler"
