Exact boss calls on trade bodies to help specialists
Trade bodies have been urged to offer more help to the specialist mortgage sector.
Alan Cleary, managing director of Exact, says the Council of Mortgage Lenders is doing little to help the specialist sector and questions whether a new body should be set up or perhaps an existing one expand its remit to cover firms such as mortgage servicers.
He says: "The CML is only repre-senting the top five or six banks in the mortgage market, not the specialist sector."
He adds that he can't imagine a separate trade body being set up in the current climate but perhaps the Association of Mortgage Inter-mediaries or the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association could expand their role.
A CML spokes-woman says: "We focus on all our members, not just the larger ones, the most active or those with a particular business model."
Peter Williams, executive director of IMLA, says: "Like all trade bodies we continue to explore how and where to expand our membership. We have no plans at present but this idea is one option."
