House prices up 10% year-on-year

UK house prices were 10.1% higher in April 2010, than in April 2009 and 0.4% higher than in March 2010, show the latest figures from the Communities and Local Government.

The mix-adjusted average house price in the UK stood at £207,516 in April 2010.

UK house prices rose by 0.9% in the quarter ending April 2010. This compares with a rise of 4.8% for the quarter ending January 2010.

Annual average house prices rose 2.2% in Scotland and 11.3% in Wales, but fell 8.9% in Northern Ireland.

Annual average house prices paid by first-time buyers in April 2010 were 12.2% higher than a year ago. Average house prices paid by former owner occupiers were 9.3% higher.

Annual average house prices paid for new properties in April 2010 were 7.6% higher than a year ago. Average house prices paid for pre-owned dwellings were 10.3% higher.
